Indus University marked the beginning of an academic journey as it inducted its First Year B.Tech Students of Batch 2013. The Induction Program starting on 22nd July’13, 2013 at Indus University Campus lasted for three days. The day kick-started with formal address by Dr. Nagesh Bhandari, President Indus University, Mrs. Ritu Bhandari, Associate President Indus University, Dr. D.P Giridhar, Executive President Indus University & Dr. S.B. Sharma, Dean of Research & Development & Director of Indus Institute of Technology & Engineering & Col. S.K. Sharma, Registrar of Indus University. The dignitaries briefed the fresher batch about Indus & its vision for them.

 

Further there was a brief Career Facilitation Program by INDUS CAREER DEVELOPMENT CELL. The presentation focused on the development of certain aspects of individual’s personality by the end of each semester so as to spruce up the graduate just in nook of the time for final job interviews. The highlight of the day however was the presence of the eminent Gujarati Columnist Mr. Jay Vasavda. The writer’s interaction with the students was the high point of the program, Vasavda in his inimitable style of blending media with education delivered an exemplary motivational session. It witnessed immense response as the audience was in splits at his each gag so much that it generated uproar for more of the noted writer par excellence.

 

The second half of the day was devoted to Classroom Activities. The students of First Year Engineering attended introductory lectures of Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Communication Skills which, rather than being based on theory, were filled with activities and quizzes. The students were also given a peek-a-boo into the course content for them to have a general idea about the syllabus along with the Activity based Quiz in each subject to hammer home the importance of activity-based learning. Students gave free expression to their thoughts in these activities where they experienced how thorough knowledge of their basics could help them understand more advanced topics. It resulted into student-faculty interaction, as the main objective was to make students comfortable and to help them build a healthy relationship with the environment.

 

On the second day of Induction Program students witnessed a brief presentation on Cyber Crime & Peer Harassment by the eminent advocate Mrs. Megha Chitaliya, the session was purely facts and figures in the world of cyber bullying & its consequences. This was followed by a purely surreal experience in form of motivational spiritual session by Swami Damodar Das from Akshaypatra foundation. The conversational interaction of Swami ji successfully transported students & faculties alike onto a different plane turning the entire atmosphere of the venue into one magical hypnotic spot. The day ended on a comic note with a special act by the faculty of the University, pulling off a solo stand-up comedy performance throwing audience into peals of laughter.

 

The finale of the program witnessed an inspirational session by the senior faculty, the ‘pep-talk’ aimed at motivating the new batch to have a better emotional sense of well being. A brief presentation on Indus University made by the Joint Registrar focused on know-how of the campus so that students feel at ease with the surroundings. The highlight of the day was General Quiz as the winner participants from classroom activities clashed like the Titans turning the competition into a nail-baiting & engaging affair with few questions dropped in for the audience too for their aptitude test. The day ended with an energetic dance performance by the senior batch of the University and felicitation of student achievers.

 

The Induction Program presented a glimpse of the world that awaits these students within & outside the classroom. It fused various experiences that provided students with an entertaining & a comprehensive learning environment.
