Indus University, since its inception is entrusted to inculcate the importance of ethics and value amongst its students, staff, as well as its stakeholders. The University is very focused on seamlessly integrating Indian traditional values and ethos through various activities as a component of its pursuit of academic excellence. Indus Institute of Special Studies (IISS) is established to achieve this goal. This Institute would also try to understand various facets of society at large such as Art, Culture, History, Philosophy, and Religion in the broad belief that “Knowledge knows no geographical boundaries”.
Dr. Rakesh Bhandari, a Professor of Indus, heads the department and guides its activities.
The Kumbh Mela Film Project
The aim of this project is to make documentary film on Kumbh Mela through dharmic perspective. No film, so far, has tried to capture the central importance of Kumbh Mela in Sanatana Dharma and Indian society. The Kumbh Mela Film Project is an attempt to fill this gap.

This documentary film is an effort to reclaim dharmic interpretation of this sacred Mela. It is an opportunity for us to share the legacy of our cultural heritage with our future generations.
IISS organizes lectures of eminent personalities on topics of current affairs and social relevance on a regular basis. In January 2014, it invited internationally acclaimed Indian-American author Shri Rajiv Malhotra for launch his latest scholarly work named Indra’s Net: Defending the Philosophical Unity of Hinduism. This book is essential for those who wish to learn more about the origins of Hinduism and its evolution over the years.
International Conference on History of Indian Science & Technology (HIST)
From 9th to 11th October 2014, IISS took initiative in organizing 8th History of Indian Science and Technology (HIST) conference in collaboration with Infinity Foundation, NJ (USA). The aims of the conference was: i) to disseminate knowledge of HIST documentation by Infinity Foundation till date and ii) to engage in discussion on many areas of the Indian Traditional Knowledge System (ITKS) that are getting marginalized under the pressure of market culture, but still possess the potential for revival if those are oriented to meet the present-day needs of the people. The conference explored and discussed the historical, economic, environmental, functional and logistic aspects of HIST and ITKS and brought out the advantages vis-à-vis the modern ones keeping in view the overall long-term sustainability.
Book Release: The Battle of Sanskrit
IISS organized a Book Launch of the renowned scholar Shri Rajiv Malhotra’s new book The Battle of Sanskrit at H T Parekh Hall, AMA, Ahmedabad on 26th Jan’16, Tuesday. The event featured a talk and a brief reading from the book by the author followed by an interactive session with the invited participants.
Chinese Acrobatic Show at Indus University
The Department of Special Studies at Indus University in association with India China Economic & Cultural Council (ICEC) organized a gala event of “CHINESE ACROBATIC SHOW” to mark the 65th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China & India and to Celebrate Chinese New Year 2015. The event was co-hosted by China India Trade & Investment Centre. The chief guest at the event was IAS Shri Mukesh Puri, Principal Secretary, Higher & Technical Education, Gujarat and the guest of honor was Mr. Shen Hong, MD, Highly Electrical Appliances India Pvt. Ltd. accompanied by Dr. Nagesh Bhandari, the President of Indus University.
